The Rubber tree's scientific name is Ficus Elastica. Also know as the rubber fig, rubber bush, rubber plant, or Indian rubber bush, Indian rubber tree, this is a species of plant in the fig genus, native to eastern parts of South Asia and southeast Asia. It has become naturalized in Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and the US State of Florida. In the Pacific Northwest, the 2 most common varieties are the Burgundy, and the Tineke (tricolor). Careful if you have house pets - when the stem is cut, rubber trees emit a latex substance that is toxic to furbabies. Otherwise, this is a very easy plant to grow and care for giving it bright filtered light and letting it dry out between waterings. Shipping not available on live plants.
