The Swiss Cheese Plant is a vining plant meaning that likes to climb or trail. In its natural habitat, it is climbing the stems and branches of other plants. As an epiphyte, these plants are able to grow on other plants.
Light
Because Monstera adansonii plants are native to the jungles of Central and South America, where they grow under the cover of large trees, they grow best in indirect sunlight. Limit exposure to less than 3 hours of morning sun if direct rays hit the leaves.
Be sure to include peat in the soil for Monstera adonsonii. Place in a pot that has a large drainage hole. The peat helps trap moisture in the soil without allowing it to become too soaked.
Water
Test the soil prior to watering - if you can't feel moisture when you place your finger up to the first knuckle into the soil, it's time to water. They are fussy though, don't let the soil dry out entirely.
Temperature and Humidity
M. adansonii grows best when humidity, temperature, and light are all balanced. If you mimic the plant's deep jungle origins, it will thrive. Keep it well-lit, warm and humid. Bathroom, Kitchen or frequent misting are all good. Place a humidifier near the plant to keep the air moist. Keep the plant above 60 degrees F.
